The local authority need to allocate more land for housing. By virtue of the fact that 93% of the district is
Green Belt, much of this is going to have to be identified and allocated through Green Belt land release. The
strategy, as presented in the draft Local Plan has failed to identify sufficient land to meet the housing
requirement over the plan period, and for reasons detailed within this letter, there are good grounds for
doubting whether all sites will come forward and deliver their stated targets.
Land to the north of Sevenoaks is one of the most sustainable Green Belt sites in the district, being a natural
urban extension of its largest town, outside the AONB, and part of a wider process of development in
Sevenoaks to the south of the M26. It has clearly defensible boundaries which prevent future unrestricted
sprawl, and offers benefits that include sport and leisure provision, and improved highway access for the
wider area.
The site should be identified as an exception site within the local authority’s development strategy, and
development supported to contribute to the housing requirements and provide additional social and leisure
benefits.
