In the planning period there is very limited need for encroachment into the green belt. Beyond what is proposed above, which fulfils Edenbridge’s quota in the district’s development, there should be no further loss of green belt.

The proposals for redesignating green belt land in Edenbridge for housing, are being promoted on the suggestion that there is some justifying community gain from the designation of a small amount of land for a medical facility.

However, Edenbridge does have two existing medical facilities on their own sites. If a new facility is built, it will presumably take over from the existing sites. In that case the values of the existing sites can be used to acquire land for the new. The idea that building houses on green belt land in some way creates a new medical facility is wrong. In any case the best location for a medical centre is already in public ownership.
