In response to the local plan I would raise the following concerns with respect to the sites H0120 and H0177.

  • Public services are already under considerable pressure in particular on the western side of Sevenoaks. The nearest state primary school to the proposed sites is in Riverhead and is already heavily oversubscribed, as is the case with other primary schools in the town.  This makes it increasingly unlikely any children living in the proposed development would obtain a place at a local school, putting further traffic onto local roads which are already heavily congested at times coinciding with the start and finish of the school day.
  • Brittains Lane in a number of sections is a narrow road which is already used by significantly more traffic than it was intended for. Additional dwellings at the proposed sites would result in more traffic on the lane requiring its capacity to be increased and a significant improvement in safety measures. The majority of the lane south from Downsview Road is also without a pavement so minimising the risk of accidents involving pedestrians would require mature trees and hedgerows to be destroyed to provide a safe means of walking. This would be of material detriment to the aesthetic of what is currently forms a very attractive boundary to the town of Sevenoaks.

Whilst a relief that sites H0120 and H0177 do not form part of current plans to develop I would urge the Council to be decisive and rule out any future consideration to develop until such time there are more definitive plans to improve public services.
