Draft Local Plan July 2018 Executive Summary 2. Protecting our Countryside

I can only agree with a previous comment: "Greenbelt that is judged to be strongly performing should not be built upon even in the face of strong housing need. Otherwise this destroys the fundamental purpose of the greenbelt. Not all greenbelt contributes equally but that which is performing strongly should be respected. Preventing outward sprawl from London and preserving strongly performing parts of the metropolitan greenbelt is of particular importance."

There are several proposed developments that are suggested within the Green Belt and AONB, some of them substantial. The Green Belt and AONB are not just for local residents, they are for all. Building on them adversely affects not only current local residents but also the very many visitors, who come to the area precisely because it is beautiful and relatively unspoiled. They are to be preserved not just for our benefit but for our children and their children. Once built over, they will be lost

The plan should recognise explicitly that maintaining and improving the environment in Sevenoaks' communities as attractive places to live, work and visit drives our economy. Our economy isn't limited by environmental standards; it depends on them.

To be proposing to use green belt land it will overcrowd the local villages with people and traffic which will have a detrimental effect on local wildlife and the local area as a place of outstanding natural beauty.

I agree that all areas of Green belt and AONB should be protected as much as possible especially as the government set it out in their 2017 election manifesto. * Maintain the existing strong protections on designated land like the Green Belt, National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty Michael Fallon has subsequently written to the Government to take this into consideration within Sevenoaks where the target put on the council is unrealistic in an are that is majority Green belt and

In relation to the request for comments on the Draft Local Plan, my first comment is that the process undertaken to date has been open, informative and balanced for which we are grateful. I am generally supportive of the overall approach to the consultation. In particular I support your guiding principle that development with the Green Belt would be considered only in the most exceptional circumstances. As can be seen by the overwhelming feedback that the Green Belt should be protected from you

Protecting the countryside is important, so is ensuring that we continue to maintain adequate farmland to supply the food we require. Building on the countryside just provides more mouths to feed with less land to produce this food.

We should not be building on areas of AONB and the Green Belt, which was set out in the 2017 Conservative Manifesto where they pledged to " * Maintain the existing strong protections on designated land like the Green Belt, National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty Michael Fallon has subsequently written to the Government to take this into consideration within Sevenoaks where the target put on the council is unrealistic in an are that is majority Green belt and AONB

Strong green belt protection needed around existing designated residential zones to maintain a clear definition between communities. this was the primary purpose of introducing green belt legislation.
