Greenbelt that is judged to be strongly performing should not be built upon even in the face of strong housing need. Otherwise this destroys the fundamental purpose of the greenbelt. Not all greenbelt contributes equally but that which is performing strongly should be respected. In protecting our countryside, we should judge what is actually valuable countryside, against those areas that we would not miss if they were built on. More priority should be set for the livability of a location, as opposed to wild life considerations.
