Otford Village Design Statement Consultation

Front Cover for invoemThis Village Design Statement is an update of that produced in 2007. This update reflects changes in planning guidance and the environment as well as the views of residents of Otford, as expressed in their responses to a questionnaire in November 2010.

This Statement covers the Otford Parish - that is, the center of the village, the housing areas along Shoreham Lane to the north, Pilgrims Way West to the west, the surrounding countryside to the north and south of the village and the Sevenoaks Road to the south as far as Bartram Farm. To the east, the area extends a short distance along Pilgrims Way East, before reaching the parish boundary with Kemsing.

The Otford Village Design Statement (VDS) is intended to give local people a chance to say how they want their communities to look in the future. It has to be in conformity with the Sevenoaks District Core Strategy, adopted in February 2011 and the emerging Allocations and Development Management Plan (to be adopted 2015). This Village Design Statement is intended to fulfil the role identified in Policy SP1 in providing detailed locally-specific guidance on the design of new development.

Once agreed by the local residents and endorsed by the Parish and the District Council, they have the legal status of Supplementary Planning Documents. That means the District Council has to take the VDS into account as a “material consideration” in deciding on future Planning Applications.
